Tema: Entropy-based quantification of a product’s BOM blocking effect.
Resumen: The current global competition requires companies to follow a demand driven, product-oriented manufacturing approach, on which manufacturing complexity increases as a result of product configuration. Even though different manufacturing complexity measures have been developed, none of them seem to put attention to the blocking effect a product’s BOM imposes to the process flow. This lecture presents the research effort made towards the development of an entropic formulation to address this last issue. Its validity and usefulness is put to the test via a discrete-event simulation study of a job shop. Our findings show that the entropic formulation act as fairly good trend indicator of the system’s performance parameters increase/decrease.

Tema: Implications of manufacturing execution in the development of a supply chain strategy.
Resumen: Current competition among companies is fought through their supply chains. As the performance of the supply chain depends not only on manufacturing and marketing attributes, it becomes necessary to establish a framework upon which to develop a supply chain strategy. This lecture presents the rationale and principles of a customer-product-process-resource (CPPR) framework for the simultaneous analysis of the business, supplier, manufacturing, planning, marketing, and customer dimensions of a supply chain strategy. The originality of the CPPR framework is that it establishes a set of supply chain structural elements, that when put together, determines the degree of alignment of a supply chain strategy.
