Resumen:In clinics, biomarkers are a collection of variables (genes, proteins, or any biological measure) that together are able to produce a diagnostic value, a predictive score, or a treatment response either continuos or categorical. In biology, a molecular state is a set of molecular measurements that can define an observable state, which can be either stable or transient. A biological network is a set of biomolecules connected by physical or functional interactions that can capture observable phenomena at qualitative or quantitative level. Biological networks have been used to approach several problems in biological sciences and medicine. Some of them have been used to propose novel clinical biomarkers and to study dynamic molecular states of cellular responses. In this talk we will introduce basic aspects of biological networks and we will show our current work for biomarker identification and stem cell differentiation.

Biografía: "El Dr. Víctor Treviño Alvarado es Profesor-Investigador en biología computacional (Bioinformática) del Tecnológico de Monterrey. Investigador Nacional SNI-1. Experiencia laboral como investigador, profesor, desarrollador de software y laboratorio de biología molecular. Ha dictado clases y conferencias en español y en inglés. Ha publicado una gran cantidad y variedad de artículos de investigación y a desarrollado software administrativo, industrial, educacional y de investigación genética y biomédica. Es Ingeniero en Sistemas Electrónicos en el ITESM, M.C. en Biología Molecular e Ingeniería Genética en la UANL y tiene un PhD en Biociencias con especialidad en Bioinformática de la University of Birmingham, en Reino Unido . Actualmente labora en investigación con proyectos de Bioinformática relacionados con biomarcadores para usos médicos y biotecnológicos. Miembro del SNI desde 2007. Dirige la investigación del grupo de enfoque estratégico en Bioinformática, Dispositivos Médicos y Nanomedicina."
